The settings menu is where your battery lives or dies
People ask us why one game eats their battery and another doesn't, and half the time the answer is buried in a settings screen they never opened. Almost every game we test has a frame rate option, and switching from 60 to 30fps often cuts drain and heat dramatically.
The second thing to look for is a background or particle effects slider. Fancy water, sparks and lighting look nice, but they push the GPU hard. Turning them down rarely hurts a mobile game visually.
Audio matters too, oddly enough. Continuous background music keeps the audio hardware busy; muting it during long sessions helps a little more than you'd think.
My routine for any new game is simple: open settings first, cap the frame rate, lower effects one notch, then play. If it still looks great, I leave it there. You can always crank things back up on a short session when you're near a charger.
